Kidney Transplant - Risk to Donor Chains
Risks Specific to Donor Chains
Donor chains also come with their own specific risks:
- Non-directed donors need to understand that donor chains can theoretically continue for many clusters, but there is no guarantee that they will.
- The donor chain may end if a "bridging donor" is no longer available to donate. The longer the time between clusters, the more likely it is that the bridging donor doesn't donate.
- The larger the cluster, the more chance there is that the surgeries for that cluster will be delayed because all the donors and all the recipients have to be cleared for surgery.
