A common type of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, nasal surgery may be performed to accomplish the following:
- Improve breathing
- Correct congenital or acquired deformities
- Change size or shape of nose (cosmetic)
- Repair nasal injuries
Conditions treated include:
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
Occurs when a patient stops breathing during periods of sleep; usually as a result of blockage (obstruction) in the airway.
Deviated septum
An abnormal configuration of the cartilage that divides the two sides of the nasal cavity, which may cause problems with proper breathing or nasal discharge.
