Gosh, I used all my energy on the previous question.
Today's session with Dr. McGlynn was balm to a ragged emotional wound that festered despite my constant attention during the past week.
It involved my autism, HIV, diet, age, cerebral palsy; their relationships and impact on my psychological health; and how to successfully develop the autonomy to navigate complex the healthcare and political systems to acquire timely and adequate assistance.
The issues are complex, thus was the nature and result of my upset, but the doctor was able to hear and help.
He didn't lecture. He listened...with curiosity and interest and responded with medical insight, personal experience and empathy.

He has an ability – even our video – to communicate his empathy and understanding combined with experience and training.

What really impresses me is his ability to let me know that he has heard and synthesized what I have to say without parroting it back to me in a condescending way. Instead I’m offered something to think about and ponder as I try to improve myself.
Also, the doctor has a history of identifying meth in multiple dwelling apartment units. This specialized expertise has been extremely helpful dealing with trauma from such a situation.
