Certified Nurses Week

National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6, also known as National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. During National Nurses Week, Stanford Health Care recognizes all of SHC nurses who have significantly contributed to advancing the patient experience, as well as the profession of nursing. It is the nurses’ commitment to providing the highest level of quality care to our patients that makes a difference every day.

Annual Magnet Conference

Melissa Luces

-"It was an inspiring conference, celebrating nursing excellence from all around the world. I felt connected to nursing professionalism in a way that will stay with me more forever. Being half way through an MSN program, Magnet inspired me to consider pursuing a DNP. I made new friends from throughout the organization and it was wonderful to share the experience with them. Excited to share my new knowledge, I presented at Nursing Grand Rounds alongside my fellow attendees. I am so grateful for the sponsorship to attend Magnet with the Stanford Health Care."

Ming-Chun Ho

-"It’s truly an honor to participate in the 2019 Magnet conference in Orlando. The Magnet conference theme surrounded celebration, education, and innovation in nursing. There are more than 10,000 nurses got together and shared nursing knowledge in the short three days. Magnet conference had shaped my view of nursing practice and education. I learned that each nurse could take the lead in making a difference in their unique care area, which impacts the patient outcome. I also learned nurses not only take care of patients at the bedside but also, expending care to the community and to global. Many frontier nurses have paved the way for us. Their leadership in nursing is pivotal for our future in innovation. I am proud to be a clinical nurse at Stanford. I am grateful to have our Nursing Excellent to support nurses to participate in the Magnet conference, which results in transforming the best professional occupation that we could be."

Jennifer Friedenbach

-"Several of the breakout sessions I attended gave me ideas for improvement that I’ve shared with my unit such as: 1) creating teaching units that are more game-based instead of lecture-style 2) starting a journal club as a way of increasing staff engagement and 3) ways to improve our responses to medical emergencies in the ambulatory centers where we don’t have rapid response or code blue teams. It was great to meet other SHC RNs and make the connections that will help us collaborate to solve problems beyond our individual units. Seeing the impact of Magnet across the other organizations and experiencing the collective RN pride was invaluable!"
