Amyloidosis Symptoms
Symptoms of Amyloidosis
Your symptoms of amyloidosis may vary, depending on which organs in your body are affected. Symptoms may include
- Abdominal bloating, especially after eating
- Bleeding or easy bruising
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Dizziness upon standing
- Edema (swelling of the legs and ankles)
- General fatigue
- Numbness in the hands and feet, including carpal tunnel syndrome
- Shortness of breath
- Skin or nail changes
- Swelling of the tongue, known as macroglossia
- Trouble swallowing
- Voice changes, such as hoarseness
- Weight loss
Diagnosing Amyloidosis
Many people with amyloidosis don't know that they have it. Although rare, the disease can be fatal, so it is important to contact your physician if you have one or more of these symptoms. Learn more about the tests Stanford physicians use for amyloidosis diagnosis.
