We offer advanced diagnostics, the latest treatment technologies and techniques, and pioneering therapies in development through clinical trials. Let us put innovation to work for you.
Everyone’s esophageal cancer experience is unique, which is why we provide customized care for you. Our doctors, nurses, technicians, and staff work together to support you throughout your journey with treatment plans tailored to fit your needs.
Your Doctors
These surgeons specialize in diagnosing and treating cancers of the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts. They also have expertise treating cancer of the esophagus. Cancer surgeons perform biopsies (procedures to remove small tissue samples) to test for cancer. They also surgically remove tumors and may remove a portion of the surrounding tissue to check for cancer cells.
These surgeons specialize in diagnosing and treating cancers that occur in organs in the chest. They use traditional (open) and minimally invasive techniques, including video-assisted thoracic surgery and robot-assisted thoracic surgery to remove tumors. Thoracic surgeons also recommend other forms of cancer treatment that can be combined with surgery.
Our skilled advanced practice providers (APPs) include physician assistants and nurse practitioners who specialize in delivering comprehensive esophageal cancer care. They see patients independently and alongside your doctor. APPs can give you a thorough exam, write prescriptions, and help prevent or treat complications. Our APPs meet weekly to discuss patient needs.
Your Extended Care Team
A nurse care coordinator is a nurse who specializes in organizing patient care and treatments by incorporating all members of the care team.
Care coordinators provide you with information and assistance before and during your appointment. They include:
- Medical Assistant: Medical assistants work with our team to help provide care. They may prepare you for an examination, assist your doctor, or take vitals before your appointment.
- Patient Care Coordinator: Our patient care coordinators help you with scheduling appointments and accessing your lab results.
- Patient Access Representative: Patient access representatives can answer questions about insurance coverage, help you apply for insurance, and refer you to a Stanford Health Care financial counselor.
