Colitis treatments available at Stanford Health Care include:

• Medications: We may use a combination of medications to relieve symptoms and help your intestines heal. We also look to see if any medications you are currently taking are causing your symptoms.
• Medical nutrition therapy: You may need to go on a special colitis diet, which may mean staying away from grains, dairy and certain sweeteners. • Surgery: Although extremely rare, some people with colitis need surgery to remove diseased segments of their intestines (resection). Surgery does not cure colitis, but it can help relieve your symptoms.
