I am hugely impressed by him and so thankful that he is my oncologist. The “watch and wait†mode that my cancer strategy has been can’t be compared to the physical and emotional pain that other cancer patients are suffering daily, but it can be stressful to know you have a disease that could turn on you at any moment. In my case, there is never enough information, especially about this rare disease. Dr. Iberri is a master at helping to navigate through that, as well as helping me to look ahead at what might happen and carefully explaining what tools are available to deal with those possibilities.
Beyond all that I have an unusual inner anatomy and there are many side roads that need to be investigated. Dr. Iberri has been extremely good about knowing which things are important to rule out and what things need to be looked at further, and what things are irrelevant. This is the art, on top of the science of medicine. I always feel much better after visiting with him.
And i would add that every area within Stanford Health Care that I have encountered has always been excellent. The blood lab, the imaging people, dermatology, hepatology, hematology have all been efficient, friendly and vary from extremely competent to excellent.

Once again, I am so grateful Dr. Iberri is my oncologist. I think he is taking very good care of me. He is very positive, cheerful, great sense of humor. He puts my husband and me at ease. He's obviously very smart!! Multiple myeloma is a complicated disease. I watch quite a few webinars trying to learn about the disease, and frankly I sometimes feel I am just becoming overwhelmed and more confused. I ask Dr. Iberri questions about things I've heard in these webinars, and he very patiently listens to me, and then explains "the whys and the wherefores" about his treatment decisions for me. He often sites studies that have been done on whatever my "topic du jour" is. I suppose all Stanford doctors are up-to-date on the research in their fields, but who knows, maybe not! I'm very appreciative that he seems to be knowledgeable about what's going on "out there" with respect to this disease. Again, maybe this is a "given" and stupid to say, but I'm a lay person entrusting my care to Dr. Iberri, so any hints of his extended studying of the disease is good news to me! It's of great relief to feel your doctor is very good and deciding the best for you.
