Conditions Treated
Our skilled team has experience addressing a wide range of concerns and conditions affecting the face, jaw, ears, and neck. We use our vast expertise to offer customized treatments for many conditions, including:
- Facial changes due to aging: With age, soft tissues lose volume and begin to sag, resulting in thinning lips, facial volume loss, wrinkles, discolorations, and uneven skin tone. Aging can also lead to neck fullness, sometimes called “double chin.”
- Nasal obstruction: Nasal obstruction, or a blocked nasal passage, can result from a range of conditions, illnesses, and disorders. Untreated, it can affect quality of life and lead to sleep disorders, including sleep apnea.
- Deviated nasal septum: This common condition, which usually results from injury or normal growth, can make it difficult to breathe through the nose.
- Skin defects following cancer treatment: Facial abnormalities can occur after the removal of skin cancer lesions, such as melanoma, or basal or squamous cell carcinomas (nonmelanoma skin cancer).
- Gender dysphoria: Our team performs gender-affirming procedures on the face and neck. These surgeries help transgender people achieve a facial appearance that more closely aligns with their gender identity.
- Facial trauma: Burns, injuries, and diseases can damage any part of the face, ears, and mouth. We also treat irregularities that result from previous surgery, such as surgery to treat cancer.
- Chronic facial paralysis: Weakness or paralysis in the facial muscles can result from nerve damage in the face. Trauma or a tumor in the face or skull often leads to nerve damage. A condition called Bell’s palsy can also cause facial paralysis, which is usually temporary.
- Synkinesis: This condition causes the involuntary movement of certain facial muscles when attempting to move another facial muscle. For example, the eye closes when one attempts to smile. Synkinesis can occur following an episode of Bell’s palsy. It is essentially a “faulty re-wiring” of the facial nerve after an injury and recovery.
Our team specializes in the latest facial plastic surgery and reconstructive techniques, including nonsurgical options and minimally invasive procedures that require less recovery time.

Treatment Options
Our team is at the forefront of the latest treatments, from common cosmetic procedures to complex facial reconstruction techniques. We’re dedicated to advancing research and pioneering innovations so that we can make treatments more precise and effective for you.
INNOVATION HIGHLIGHTS
- Groundbreaking treatment options, including laser therapy and sophisticated microsurgery techniques to perform intricate reconstructive surgery on tiny nerves and blood vessels.
- World-renowned team of experts who specialize in aesthetic procedures and cosmetic surgery, including clinical researchers who teach and lecture worldwide.
- Collaborative approach from a multispecialty team, including experts at the Stanford Health Care Facial Nerve Center, to deliver effective treatments for facial paralysis and other facial nerve conditions.
Our surgeons are recognized leaders in cosmetic plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery. We offer noninvasive options, minimally invasive techniques, and traditional surgery procedures requiring a high level of skill. Working as a team, we deliver individualized care based on your unique needs. Treatment options include:
- Chemical peels: These procedures peel away old skin to reveal a new layer of skin. The new layer is often smoother and has a more even skin tone.
- Dermabrasion/dermaplaning: This noninvasive exfoliation treatment removes the outer layer of skin using a fine abrasive. It helps to correct scars and wrinkles.
- Ear pinning: Doctors use this cosmetic plastic surgery procedure to set prominent ears closer to the head, reduce the size of larger ears, or correct other irregularities of the outer ear.
- Eyelid lift (blepharoplasty): This surgical procedure reduces bagginess from the lower eyelids and removes excess skin from the upper eyelids.
- Facelift: A facelift reshapes the facial contour by repositioning the deeper tissues of the face, rather than simply pulling on the skin.
- Facial implants: This surgery reshapes or repairs facial contours and features by placing implants, most commonly in the chin, jaw, and cheeks.
- Facial reanimation: To treat chronic facial paralysis, surgeons repair or reconnect the facial nerves that control muscles in the face.
- Fillers and neuromodulators: Our providers can use a variety of fillers, including your own fat cells, to enhance facial volume, or use neuromodulators like Botox® to reduce wrinkles.
- Forehead lift surgery: This procedure removes excess fat and skin in the forehead area. It’s often performed along with a facelift.
- Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty): Doctors perform this surgery to reshape the nose. It can also correct a deviated septum.
- Gender-affirming facial surgery: We offer facial feminization and masculinization procedures to smooth or change facial features. These surgeries can be life-changing for people who are transgender or gender nonconforming.
