Type
Type of Annular Closure
Stanford Medicine orthopaedic surgeons take an innovative approach to solving reherniation. We offer the only annular closure device of its kind approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The device is a bone-anchored implant made of titanium and polymer fabric mesh.
About the implant
Titanium is a strong, lightweight metal. It is an ideal choice for a small, durable implant that can withstand the pressure put on the spine. The implant can tolerate up to 330 pounds of force per square inch of pressure.
The polymer part of the implant is a plastic-like mesh. The mesh is flexible, which allows the surgeon to place it precisely to patch the hole in the outer ring of the disc.
