Rick Shumway is the President and CEO at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley. Based in Pleasanton, Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley serves a large portion of the East Bay and Central Valley, and is home to a range of both complex and community-based health care services.
Shumway has spent the majority of his career in large academic medical centers and has effectively integrated these systems with the communities that they serve. Shortly after joining Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley in 2019, Shumway launched a five-year strategic planning process to enable the organization to further integrate with Stanford Medicine to improve patient care, train the clinical leaders of tomorrow, and promote fundamental, clinical, and translational discovery.
Earlier in his career, Shumway served as the Chief Administrative Officer at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Before that, Shumway served as Executive Director at University of Utah Health Care in Salt Lake City and held senior leadership positions at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, and Intermountain Healthcare’s Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah.
Shumway earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Health from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Washington.
