Biography

Dr. Miglis is a Clinical Associate Professor in the departments of Neurology and Neurological Sciences and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He received his MD from the University of Florida. After serving as a medical intern at Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University, he completed his neurology residency New York University. He then completed two fellowships, the first in Autonomic Disorders at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Harvard Medical school, and the second in Sleep Medicine at the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center. He is director of the Stanford Multiple System Atrophy Center of Excellence and the Stanford Parasomnia Sleep Disorders Clinic, and is extensively involved in the multidisciplinary Stanford Post-Acute COVID Syndrome (PACS) clinic.

Dr. Miglis treats a wide variety of neurological diseases and has a special interest in Autonomic Disorders, Sleep Disorders, and the interaction between these conditions. His research efforts are currently focused on mechanisms of autonomic dysfunction in Long-COVID/PASC and the central nervous system hypersomnias, in particular Idiopathic Hypersomnia. He is also site principle investigator of the North American Prodromal Synucleinopathy Study and has several ongoing studies evaluating skin biopsy and autonomic testing as markers of disease progression in isolated REM sleep behavior disorder.

Willing to explore lots of possibilities for my condition. Seemed open minded about my autoimmune disease (unspecified), which is not the case with most traditionally trained doctors. I was really impressed when he said that Western Medicine is not prepared to diagnose/treat my symptoms (Standford's tests didn't give him a clear path to diagnosing a specific condition). Heâ€™s very knowledgeable and excellent â€œbedside mannerâ€ . Although one comes in with a diagnosis in place, if he thinks you could be dealing with another issue or diagnosis as well, he will explore those options. I was incredibly comfortable talking to Dr. Miglis. He seemed to know so much, and not only that he was very easy to talk to. He seemed very relaxed and laid back. It was clear he'd looked in to the issue I was experiencing prior to our visit, which I really appreciated. I felt really confident in everything he was telling me. He simplified his explanations so that it made sense to me, and it all did. He looked at my past MRI and explained things to me about that. He had several different ideas, presented them all to me (he also explained what he didn't believe it was, and why, which was also appreciated). I feel so hopeful after this appointment. Really cool guy, and feel really grateful I got to meet with him. It was clear he just really knows his stuff, and I felt like I was in solid hands the whole time. He made it clear what my next steps would be, to follow up with him in a month, and I like that before we ended the visit he gave me the chance to ask him any more questions. Such a great visit. I also want to say that despite how knowledgeable he was, I didn't get any vibe of arrogance from him. I think it's one thing I really liked about meeting with him. Just a super smart guy, but he made things accessible for me. Thank you so much. P.S. A medical student was there during the visit, Harsh. I wanted to give my positive feedback for him as well. Really well rounded guy, easy to speak to, and very empathetic. He did a sort of assessment of my symptoms before the meeting with Dr. Miglis, and he was also really easy to speak to. I told him so much info but he got it all, and when he relayed the info to Dr. Miglis he clearly had listened to me and understood everything, because he explained it just as I would have (only he was able to explain it with proper medical terminology.) He was really thorough and wanted to make sure he hadn't missed anything. Really appreciated having him there in the visit as well. I had my luggage stolen with my CPAP machine in it. I informed the doctor that my sleep is impossible without the machine. He was very understanding until I informed him that I need the process to be accelerated. He said that the process would take a few days. I had already telephoned Verus Healthcare (DME company) and was told that if I could procure a prescription and insurance approval that I could get the machine in just a day or two. He understood that I was at the clinic because my regular doctor required my visit to the sleep clinic as a precondition for continuing to prescribe sleeping pills for me, and he approved my request for Temazepam, which does not create a risk of sleepwalking. He also gave me the courage to ask my spouse to stop drinking (I stopped a few months over a year ago) because it is her snoring which really keeps me awake. She has now agreed "to stop drinking for me"!

He prescribed a medication that will interact with a medication I'm currently on and therefore I can't take the new medication. He was very nice and I felt he respected me and my health conditions but I didn't leave with any hope or reassurance. There were no tests ordered and I feel like the extremely long questionnaire I spent literally hours doing wasn't used at all. I feel like concerns addressed in the survey weren't addressed at all in the appointment but that I should've gone through it with the doctor in person to have any potential issues discussed.

By the time the office staff in the lab could definitively determine that he was no longer in and there was no one there to order the lab work, I had waited nearly an hour. I was not happy. Also, no explanation of how I was to increase the dose of one of my medications...
