IntraLASIK
IntraLASIK
Stanford Hospitals and Clinics: laser vision correction: IntraLASIK
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved a new technology that may change how your eye surgeon performs your LASIK procedure. It's called IntraLASIK. While the creation of the initial flap with conventional LASIK is made using a mechanical device, the IntraLASIK procedure uses a precision laser device to create potentially a more precise flap without the use of a blade.
Possible benefits of IntraLASIK
IntraLASIK technology uses precise laser technology to create the initial flap necessary during LASIK procedures. Some of the potential advantages of IntraLASIK are:
- Potentially a more precise way of creating a flap
- Potentially useful for patients with thin corneas
IntraLase laser technology
The IntraLase system was the first laser to be approved by the U.S FDA for creation of LASIK flaps.
How IntraLASIK works
The surgeon will begin by determining the appropriate size and thickness of your flap.
This information is then programmed into the laser allowing the surgeon to customize the IntraLASIK procedure to your unique visual requirements.
Getting IntraLASIK
Like conventional LASIK, IntraLASIK is a surgical procedure and has risks associated with it. It's important to discuss its applications and potential complications with your eye doctor to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure.
