And one of his best qualities is that he talks to me as a more or less equal and believes and respects my input (including research articles I sometimes send).
I see a number of specialists at Stanford, and often feel like I am gaslit with 'active listening' without any direct response. This makes me feel like I have to do a lot of research about my conditions as I am unlikely to get in-depth answers to many of my queries. This especially applies to new drugs or treatments. I have to bring them up because otherwise they are never mentioned.

After many years of futile efforts to control my GERD, I have realized that I should seek professional help. I switched my GI care to Dr. Clarke six months ago. He performed an upper endoscopy with a 96-hour wireless pH probe. Remarkably, he performed the test himself from end to end to get a better appreciation of my condition. The test results pointed to my regimen (high pH diet, 20MG omeprazole every other day, and active exercise routine) as the prime culprit for my GERD symptom flare-ups.
I have made necessary adjustments to my regimen (switching to 20MG omeprazole daily and easing the exercise routine) and achieved marked improvement in my life quality. The follow-up endoscopy test performed by Dr. Clarke confirmed that the previously seen reflux esophagitis had entirely healed, but a moderate hiatal hernia persisted and biopsied tissues revealed many years of abuse. In a separate video conference, Dr. Clarke reviewed the issues with me and provided specific recommendations.
Dr. Clarke’s methodical and thorough approach has been a breath of fresh air. I profusely thank Dr. Clarke and his staff for their dedication to high-quality GI care. It would be very remiss of me not to give special plaudits to Dr. Clarke’s nurse Lily for very fruitful communications.

I know that my mother is in very good hands with Dr. Clarke. He takes the time to listen to her. He asks for her opinion about other care options and is very empathetic and concerned for her health. Her health is what it is but is really helps her to deal with her issues knowing that Dr. Clarke continues to try and provide relief. He also advises of new and upcoming medications that may assist her. We are very grateful to Dr. Clarke for his care of my mother.

I've never spent so much time with a gastroenterologist. Dr. Clark didn't seem to be in a rush (a common experience I've had in the past), and used the information from my esophagus biopsy (done in 2017) to inform me of another illness that I didn't know I had and that was causing a lot of my symptoms. This information and his advice have already made a difference.

These comments refer to Dr. Clarke. I was somewhat concerned that he thought my connective tissue disorder (EDS) didn't apply to internal organs, muscles and viscera--only to skin and joints. I was pleased that he took note with my concern and correction of this perception. Overall, Dr. Clarke was a very kind and knowledgable and a good listener. I wasn't expecting him to suggest P.O.E.M. and had prepped my questions for dilatation, and so afterwards, thought of questions about P.O.E.M. I should have asked...
