Care and Treatment of Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy

Expertise

Stanford has the accumulated wisdom of many years of research and continues to develop the latest advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathy. For example, Stanford researchers were instrumental in the development of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy, leading to the first successful bridge to transplant implant in 1984 at Stanford by Dr. Philip Oyer.

  • A comprehensive range of care, including medical management, device implantation, and heart transplantation
  • Advanced diagnostic and treatment options, including the left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy for both short-term and long-term use
  • The benefit of cutting-edge research, including new approaches to diagnosing cardiomyopathy using genetic testing and new therapies for improving the lives of patients
  • Specialized programs within heart failure, including amyloid heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, inherited cardiovascular disease, and chemotherapy/radiation induced heart disease
