Biography

Dr. Capasso is the Chief of Sleep Surgery, Associate Professor of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, Associate Dean of Research at Stanford University School of Medicine and Advisor to the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign. His medical training includes Head and Neck Surgery, Neurosciences and Sleep Medicine. He has done research and published extensively on pre-treatment evaluation and surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and currently my research interests have a focus on clinical utilization of smartphone applications and consumer-based devices for sleep disordered breathing. The local and international recognition of this work is often associated with one of his favorite tasks: lecturing and trading knowledge nationally and internationally. I have been a mentor or supervisor to hundreds of medical students, residents, fellows or visiting scholars from more than 30 countries, and dozens of Stanford Biodesign students who developed healthcare companies in the Bay Area, Japan, Brazil and Singapore, and my goal is to utilize this acquired experience to foster health innovation training of multidisciplinary teams and engineers with broad impact globally. I am a member of the Stanford Medical Leadership Academy, an initiative to foster the development of innovative leadership across and outside departments at the School of Medicine and in the role of Associate Dean of Research I assist the Dean’s office and our CTSA group for the strategic development of translational research in value-based healthcare technologies. I am a consultant, advisor, and investor in a number of digital health and medical device companies.

Dr. very thorough and straight forward. Detailed action for future follow-up treatment/data tracked by Inspire device.
Exceptional doctor. Dr. Capasso is outstanding in his field, and I highly recommend him. His insights in the area of sleep medicine are superb.
Great doctors, well informed. Listen to one.
Exceptional doctors, very detailed evaluation & great bedside manner!
One of my best experiences with a doctor ever.
Dr. Capasso and his (fellow?) are wonderful can imagine a more thorough visit on higher level of concern or courtesy.

Very happy with their service.
good experience
Dr. Capasso is the best.
Great care provider.
Dr. Capasso went above & beyond to get my CPAP machine same day as appt.
Dr. Capasso, Robson is an excellent care provider. He walked me through the decision making process for care recommendation with sufficient supporting evidence.
Starting w/nasal polyp surgery, Dr. Capasso has continue to provide quality care with referrals for TMJ problems, sleep apnea, etc. He has enhanced the quality of my life w/his expertise & compassion!
Dr. Capasso took his time with me and came up with a good plan. I am very confident with his care.
Dr. Capasso & Dr. Awod are both incredible drs.
After getting two very different options, I wasn't sure what the right answer was or who to believe. He gave me great explanations, realistic expectations and made me feel comfortable in the next step.
I was a bit unclear about my post OP medication instructions.
Dr. Capasso is outstanding.
Dr. Capasso was amazing. Thank You.
Dr. Capasso took his time on e axamining me and e explained in the most simple way that I totally understood. Best doctor I ever had.
Dr. Capasso was very reassuring and made my concerns seem easier to understand.
Dr. Capasso is usually wonderful. This time he was late and then, rushed. I did not get all the information I needed.
The care provider is cordial and provided good information and set realistic expectations. That said, I sometimes don't feel that I am being completely "heard". As an experienced patient, I weigh the pros an cons of procedures carefully, do some online research, etc. so that I can make a completely informed decision.
Outstanding.
Excellent
good experience
I had lots of questions and Dr. Capasso was patient and answered every question thoroughly. He is wonderful.
Dr. Capasso is amazing. He has been treating me for a couple years and about to do another surgery. I trust him completely and he always spends time making sure my wife and I understand what is going on. some how he always remembers things going on in our life like no time has passed between visits my family is blessed that I am being treated at Stanford and especially by Dr. Capasso
He was very friendly informative. I felt confident with his knowledge in this field and with my son's condition and how to proceed.
Dr. Capasso was excellent. He was kind, interested, insightful, skilled, helpful for me to understand, gave knowledgeable ideas toward my diagnosis explaining them. I was delightfully surprised.
Dr. Capasso is a professional.
Both Dr. Capasso and his assistant very kind, while at the same time professional. I went into the appointment not knowing exactly what to expect, but a little nervous because of not knowing what was going to happen. Dr. Capasso has a very kind and caring manner which helped me get through the nasal scope despite the extreme pain. I left the appointment having full confidence in his knowledge and much relieved. I believe him to be very knowledgeable and he did not rush me in any manner.
Dr. Capasso is a caring, competent physician and surgeon. His transparency is such that I can confide in him to provide answers regarding treatments and options regarding my well being.
Dr Capasso had multiple assistants and people in the room. Once he checked me out he gave me his diagnosis. Because I had no nose issues, he brushed me off and wanted to send me to another doctor that can't be seen for another month. One of the assistants were rude to my son. I took my son and left. I decided to go to UCSF, they will at least see me sooner and help me.
Outstanding.
Dr. Capasso was very approachable and very gentle in the procedures he needed to do. He was very informative but also a pleasure to work with.
he was a typical surgeon. He has profound knowledge and wisdom, but his social skills could be improved.
Dr. Capasso was wonderful
The doctors are so nice so respectful but the experience of contacting the clinic by phone and signature when you get there is no better than Kaiser!
10+ good.
I have 100% confidence in the advice and care of Dr. Capasso.
provider was great but both times I have needed meds after the visit they did not give them to me at checkout or called them into the wrong place regardless of me asking multiple times
Dr Capasso is the best! it's like visiting family when we drive up.for.my appointment. we drive four hours each way to see him
Dr. Capasso was wonderful.
excellent interaction
Dr. Capasso provided exceptional clinical care and detailed guidance. He offered a comprehensive review of the options and detailed description of next steps. Thoughtful and considerate, he was extremely generous with his time as he assessed the best clinical course.
I cannot speak more highly of Stanford doctors - tops in their field friendly & knowledgeable - making a stark contrast to the administration.
Dr. Capasso is a very professional and detail oriented doctor. I really appreciated his attention during my appointment -
dr capasso is excellent
Really impressed & a very personable man.
It would be good if Dr. Cappaccio would explain what the nasal spray was BEFORE spraying into my nose, instead of saying "Im going to spray this in your nose & this is something that you will not like." I had to ask the student doctor what exactly the "sleep study" take come device was and it would have been better if Dr. Cappaccio explained what exactly what it was. I was surprised that it was a device that did not allow me to wear my CPAP machine.
I have not had such a coordinated and efficient medical experience as I did this visit (anywhere).
Dr. Capasso is EXCELLENT, efficient and concerned about my time. He knows I don't like using a CPAP machine and always has suggestions to help me and tried his best to make my problem as easy as possible for me to handle. He is caring and easy to talk to! I would not hesitate to strongly recommend him to anyone.
I would have liked more information on the procedure I was evaluated for.
love how he go on details and words that I can understand.
The man who did my IV was very nice and soft spoken. I remember I was crying right before I fell asleep and the nurse rubbed my head, so nice and comforting.
The doctor was in a hurry to get to the next patient
I have great confidence in the ability of Dr. Capasso.
Dr Capasso didn't spend much time explaining post-op instructions and they weren't thoroughly explained in the paperwork either. I was told to rinse with saline, not how often or what kind. I knew to take how often to take meds and he was very helpful in getting me taken care of post-op on day of surgery. He's definitely a solid doctor.
Excellentt doctor! His dedication to his profession only rivals his dedication to his patient. This is reflected by his staff as well.
Dr. Capasso is one of the professional and friendliest doctors I have met.
Dr. Capasso and Dr. Torre were very patient with my multiple questions. I never felt rushed & felt they were always generous with their time.
Top of the line care!
Felt I was under the best care possible!
The only concern was he sprayed my nose with numbing spray before asking or telling me what it was for and for my permission. He did say sorry immediately but it startled me. Please note I feel very comfortable with this doctor even though I had this experience just food for thought as it was necessary for him to perform the nasal endoscopy.
I have recommended Dr. Capasso several times since he has treated my sleep apnea. My dentist (who at times lectures at either USC or UCLA) looked in my mouth and proclaimed it was the best sleep apnea surgery he'd ever seen.
Stanford is excellent - no question. Great doctors - great care - great everything.
The doctor is personable & intelligent & respectful but I had the sense he felt pressure by scheduling to rush through our visit.
In the 10+ years I've been treating my issue, this was by far the best provider I've dealt with. Took steps to understand and find solutions, not just guess and try things that "might work."
