Patient & Family Advisory Council

Accomplishments

  • Recruited 2 new members
  • Participated in Video Visit Work Group to improve the efficiency of scheduling follow-up appointments before ending the visit
  • PFAC members captured their stories as patients and caregivers through StoryCorps recordings
  • Participated in a Palo Alto Cancer Center PFAC meeting to compare meeting format and share ideas on possible future project collaborations
  • Provided input on the selection of new infusion chairs
  • Participated in a Palliative Care work group, where PFAC members shared their experiences after having gone through the Palliative care process as a patient and caregiver. 
  • Reviewed the clinic’s monthly Press Ganey scores with the Director of Clinical Services, and provided feedback on how to improve the scores on response time, ratings, etc. 
  • To ensure the patient and caregiver voice was represented in the hiring process of new staff, members of the PFAC participated in interviews for staff at the Cancer Center South Bay
  • Invited speakers to present the following topics to the PFAC:
    • Cancer Center South Bay - Elwin Cabebe, MD, Director of Oncology Quality
    • Neurology and Disabilities Patient & Family Advisory Council - Jennifer Everett, PFAC member
    • Integrative Medicine - Manuela Kogon, MD 
    • StoryCorps at Stanford Health Care - Gillian Kumagai, Manager, Stanford Health Library 
    • Cancer Center Palo Alto Patient & Family Advisory Council - Tom Guntly, member
    • Beryl Institute - Sarah Foad, Manager Patient & Family Partner Program
    • Stanford Cancer Survivorship Program - Alison Clayton, Program Manager
    • Breast reconstruction - Rahim Nazerali, MD Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
    • Disabilities PFAC - Brittany Postle, member
  • Provided feedback to SHC’s IT department on multiple projects, including addressing  MyHealth Patient Testing, scheduling, referrals, and telephone tree issues
  • Participated in a subcommittee on cleanliness, making recommendations on where to put signage regarding the CDC guidelines for managing COVID spread during the height of the pandemic
