Anti-Racism, Anti-Discrimination Commitment
As leaders of Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley, we make this pledge:
We denounce all forms of racism and discrimination.
We will not be silent.
We are committed to change.
Throughout the Stanford Medicine enterprise, and here at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley, our vision is to heal humanity through science and compassion, one patient at a time. More than a vision, it is also a promise. Inherent in our vision is the expectation that we will provide access to the very best health care available to every patient who comes to us for care, regardless of race, ethnicity, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual identity, physical or mental disability, or age.
Racism and discrimination in all its forms are a direct affront to our vision and our most cherished values. We recognize that systems of oppression and inequity are deeply entrenched in our society. As health care professionals, we recognize that this problem is as much a public health issue as it is political or cultural in nature. We have a responsibility to challenge racism and discrimination for our patients and to set an example in the communities that we serve.
Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley leaders share a commitment with Stanford Medicine leadership to challenge and change the systems that perpetuate all forms of systemic racism and discrimination. We are taking important first steps by looking inward and taking action to nurture an environment free of racism and discrimination at all levels of our organization by:
- Promoting an atmosphere of diversity, inclusion, and belonging
- Enhancing awareness of racism and discrimination occurring in healthcare and society
- Implementing leadership training and accountability
- Celebrating diversity
- Promoting professional growth
- Fostering open lines of communication towards accelerating positive change
Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley leaders are ready to listen and learn. We welcome feedback and guidance offered with the intention of cultivating an environment that lives up to our promise to provide a safe place for compassionate care to all.
Sincerely,
Rick Shumway
