Billy W. Loo Jr., MD PhD is a Professor of Radiation Oncology, a member of the Stanford Cancer Institute, of the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS), and of Bio-X. He is a physician-scientist Radiation Oncologist and Bioengineer who directs the Thoracic Radiation Oncology Program and is PI of the FLASH Sciences Lab at Stanford.

His clinical specialty is state-of-the-art precision radiotherapy for lung/thoracic cancers, including stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR). Dr. Loo is a recognized expert in thoracic cancers serving on multiple national committees (including as writing member or vice-chair) that publish clinical guidelines on the treatment of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies, particularly the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).

His clinical research is in clinical trials and implementation of new treatment techniques for lung cancer, and development of new medical imaging methods for measuring organ function and predicting response to cancer treatment. He also has developed novel applications of SABR including treatment of pulmonary emphysema and cardiac arrhythmias.

Since conceiving of a fundamentally new approach to delivering ultra-rapid, ultra-precise cancer therapy, pluridirectional high-energy agile scanning electronic radiotherapy (PHASER), Dr. Loo's major laboratory research focus has been to co-lead a collaborative effort between the Stanford Cancer Institute and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory to develop PHASER into a transformative and clinically practical technology. This program comprises both technology development and fundamental research on the radiobiology of extremely rapid FLASH therapy to optimize the biological therapeutic index.

Dr. Loo received his MD from University of California, Davis and his PhD in Bioengineering from University of California, San Francisco and Berkeley. He completed his Radiation Oncology residency training at Stanford University. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology, and is a Fellow of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and a Fellow of the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Dr. Loo was as excellent as ever. Communication, help, answering every question, caring and being certain I was comfortable with his presentation is just some of his greatest attributes.
Clear, extremely thorough, knowledgeable, friendly, answered questions, had confidence in him. Highly recommend him.
There were differences in his description of CT findings relatice to Drm Neal's descriotion yesterday, so I am confilused about my condition. It would have been better to have Drs. Neal and Loo come to a conclusion together and call me together.

Dr Loo and his staff are amazing people, smart, kind, straightforward and informative. I am so blessed to have them on my team!
Dr. Loo is impressive -- very clear and thorough. He is responsive to comments and questions and never seems rushed. Although I prefer to see a doctor in person because I believe it allows a more personal interaction, I did not feel any substantive loss from a video visit. In some ways, since we are wearing masks, the possible nuance and expression that comes from being in the room, is anyway lost. I look forward to the time when we are not masked.
Dr. Billy Loo is a nice responsible doctor. Every time when I have problem he always solved to me. He is a sympathize and a loving heart person.
Excellent Doctor on all levels!

Dr. Loo excellent his resident was outstanding as well.
I didn't know what questions to ask. As the suggested procedure was change from spot radiation to a full lung treatment. I should have asked more question about the dr.'s work with this procedure & the success rate. Am not waiting to get a second opinion... I just need to make sure this is the best treatment for me. However, I did like Dr. Loo. So hopeful we can proceed.
